"Cada Loco Con Su Tema" 2024
38 x 48 inches
Acrylics and Air-Dry Clay on Canvas
Part of my "Venezuelan Sayings" series.
I wanted to explore my culture in a less obvious approach but remain true to my childhood memories. What is one thing I always heard since I was a child? Sayings! Specifically, Venezuelan sayings from where I am from, they are precise and hilarious at times and I wanted to honor that. Whether I was with my grandparents, my aunt, or my mom or dad, they would always find a way to mention the most insane saying that could perfectly fit the situation. And of course, as a child, I had no idea what they meant, but I always had a clear picture in mind of what they could represent.
“Cada Loco Con Su Tema” which translates to "To each their own” is my most experimental piece as of late. At first, this painting was going to be about how I love smiling, and I wanted that whoever encountered this painting would smile alongside it. Kind of creating a chain reaction of genuine smiles after looking at the teeth in my smile smiling as well. Did you wonder about the tooth without a face? Just smile at it and your answer will be answered!
